When Mariam’s labour pains lasted for several days, she did not realise something was wrong – this was her first child and she thought the pain was normal.
Without adequate medical treatment, Mariam lost her baby and developed a fistula.
Mariam (right) has recently returned to CBM partner hospital CCBRT to receive surgery to heal her fistula.
The hospital teaches the patients new skills, such as knitting, and fosters a good sense of community and healing to help empower women recovering from fistula surgery.
